How do I Follow Jesus?

God made everything. The earth, sun, moon, plants,
animals and people. (Genesis 1)
God made a man from dust and a woman from the
man. (Genesis 1:26-2:25)
God put the man (Adam) and the woman (Eve) in a
perfect garden. They had everything they needed.
They never got sick and they did not have to work.
God created humans to love him. It is impossible to
love God unless you have the choice to obey Him
or not so God gave them a choice. They could eat
any tree except one, The Tree of the Knowledge of
Good and Bad. Adam and Eve decided to disobey
God and as punishment for their sin (disobeying
God) death, pain, and hard work entered the
world. (Genesis 3)
In fact it wasn't only Adam and Eve that sinned
(disobeyed God) but also you and I.
Romans 3:23 "Everyone has sinned and is far away
from God's saving presence."

As a result of our sin we will die and without Jesus
will go to hell (a place of punishment that lasts
forever).

Romans 6:23 "For sin pays its wage-death; but
God's free gift is eternal life with Jesus Christ our
Lord."

Jesus died in your place.
Romans 5:8-11 "But God has shown us how much
he loves us-it was while we were still sinners that
Christ died for us! His blood now puts us right with
God; how much more, then, will he save us from
God's anger! We were God's enemies but he
made us his friends how much more will we be
saved by Christ's life!

Jesus came back to life.
I Corinthians 15:3-6 "...Christ died for our sins, as
is written in the Scriptures (Bible); that he was
buried and that he was raised to life three days
later. . .he appeared to Peter and then all twelve
apostles. Then he appeared to more than five
hundred of his followers at once, most of whom are
still alive, although some have died."

Jesus is the ONLY way to God. This means that
you must follow ONLY Jesus. You cannot follow
any other religion and Jesus at the same time.

John 14:6 Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the
truth, and the life, no goes to the Father except
through me."

Exodus 20:3-5 "Worship no god but me. Do not
make for yourselves images of anything in heaven
or on the earth or in the water under the earth. Do
not bow down to any idol or worship it, because I
am the Lord your God and I tolerate no rivals. I
bring punishment on those who hate me and on
their descendents down to the third and fourth
generation."

You don't have to DO (not good works) anything.
You only need to have BELIEVE (have faith) that
Jesus paid for your sins.

Ephesians 2:8-9
8. For it is by grace you have been saved, through
faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of
God--
9. not by works, so that no one can boast.

John 3:16
For God loved the world so much that he gave his
only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may
not die but have eternal life.

You only have to RECEIVE him.

John 1:12
But as many as received Him, to them he gave the
right to become children of God, even to those who
believe on his name.

You can receive Jesus right now through prayer.

Prayer is talking to God. Here are some things you
might want to tell God when you pray.

You believe he is real and that he made you.
You believe that you have disobeyed his rules and
deserve to die and be punished in hell.
You believe that Jesus, God's Son, came to earth,
lived a perfect life, and died on the cross to pay for
your sins.
You want him to forgive your sins.
You want him to come into your life and take
control.
You want to follow him forever.

Here is a sample prayer.

"Jesus, I know that you are God. I need you.
Thank you for dying on the cross to pay for my
sins. Please forgive me for all the bad things I have
done and for all the time I have spent not believing
in you. I open the door of my life to you and ask
you to save me from my sins and be my God.
Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me
eternal life with you in Heaven. Take control of my
life and lead me. I will only follow you. Make me
the kind of person you want me to be."

If this prayer is what you want. Pray right now and
ask God to save you. You can pray in your own
language if you like. If you would like to pray this
prayer but are afraid that your family will be angry
with you, please go to the section entitled
"Problem," at the end of this booklet.

If you prayed to receive Jesus Christ, you are now
a new person!

Your sins have been forgiven! You are a child of
God! Right now in Heaven, they are having a party
because of your decision to follow Christ!

" Luke 15:10. In the same way, I tell you, there is
rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over
one sinner who repents."

You have eternal life!

"And the witness is this, that God has given us
eternal life, and this life is in his Son. These things
have I written to you who believe in the name of the
Son of God, in order that you may know that you
have eternal life." I John 5:11-13

"I will never leave you" Hebrews 13:5

Now that you have received Christ

Jesus Christ is in your life (Revelations 3:20 and
Colossians 1:27)
Your sins were forgiven (Colossians 1:14
You have become a child of God (John 1:12).
You received eternal life (John 5:24)
You began the great adventure for which God
created you (John 10:10, II Corinthians 5:17, I
Thessalonians 5:18).

Keep Growing!

Now that you are a new Christian you need to
continue to know God better, to grow in your faith,
and learn.

G- Go to God in prayer every day. (John 15:7)
R- Read God's word every day (Acts 17:11)
O- Obey God, moment by moment (John 14:21)
W- Witness for Christ by your life and words
(Matthew 4:19)
T- Trust God for every detail of your life (I Peter
5:7)
H- Holy Spirit- allow him to control and empower
your daily life and witness.

Don't Grow Alone-Go to a Good Church

God tells us not to give up "assembling of
yourselves together (Hebrews 10:25).

As a Christian, you are now part of the "Body of
Christ."
Just as a body needs all its parts, the Church needs
you.
Find a good church where Christ is honored and
the Bible is taught and make plans to attend
regularly.

4. Just as each of us has one body with many
members, and these members do not all have the
same function,
5. so in Christ we who are many form one body,
and each member belongs to all the others.

Family Problem
I know that Jesus is the only way to God and I
want to follow him but I love my family and they
will be angry with me if I become a Christian.
What should I do?

Mark 10:29 "Jesus said to them, "and I tell you that
those who leave home or brothers or sisters or
mother or father or children or fields for me and for
the gospel, will receive much more in this present
age. They will receive a hundred times more
houses, brothers, sisters, mothers, children, and
fields-and persecutions as well; and in the age to
come they will receive eternal life."

Exodus 20:12 "Respect your father and your
mother, so that you may live a long time in the land
that I am giving you."

I Corinthians 7:12,13 &16 "To the others I say (I,
Paul, not the Lord): if a Christian man has a wife
who is an unbeliever and she agrees to go on living
with him, he must not divorce her. And if a
Christian woman is married to a man who is an
unbeliever, and he agrees to go on living with her,
she must not divorce him... How can you be sure,
Christian wife, that you will not save your husband?
Or how can you be sure, Christian husband, that
you will not save your wife?

Being a Christian doesn't mean that you stop loving
your family. Actually, with God's help you will love
them even more and will want them to follow Jesus
like you do.

Making The Right Choice
Imagine that you are driving a car with all of your
loved ones sleeping in the back seat. You are
trying to drive to the seaside for a family holiday.
Suddenly, you see signs that say "Danger,
Landmines Ahead." "Stop" "Take Another Road."
What would you do? If you keep going on the
road that you are on, eventually you and your family
will all die. But if you turn around your life will be
saved. Your family would be unhappy if they didn't
get to go on their holiday at the seaside, but if you
love them you would rather have them unhappy and
alive than happy and dead. In the same way, if you
become a Christian, you will be turning from the
path that leads to death and hell to the path that
leads to life. Your family might be unhappy for a
while but you will be able to warn them of the
dangers of not following Jesus. Maybe they will
become Christians too! If you don't become a
Christian, it is the same as keeping driving when
you see the signs that say, "Danger, Landmines
Ahead." You would be responsible for your
family's death because you knew the truth but didn't
warn them and you died with them.

The choice is yours. I pray that you will choose life
in heaven for yourself and your family.

¿Cómo puedo yo seguir a Jesús?

-Dios es el creador de todo. Él creó el mundo, el
sol, las plantas, a los animales y al hombre,
Génesis 1:26-2:25.
-Dios puso al hombre (Adán y Eva) en el jardín
del Edén. Eran perfectos. Tenían todo lo que
necesitaban. No se enfermaban y su trabajo no era
pesado.-
Dios creó al hombre para amarle. Es imposible
amar al Señor sin haber tomado la decisión de
obedecer o no. Dios dio al hombre la capacidad de
tomar decisiones. Ellos podían comer
de todo los árboles que había en jardín, menos el
de uno, el de la ciencia del bien y del mal.
Adán y Eva decidieron desobedecer a Dios y
como castigo por su pecado(desobediencia a Dios)
vino la muerte, el dolor y el trabajo duro entró al
mundo, Génesis 3.
-En realidad no solamente Adán y Eva pecaron,
sino tú y yo también.
Romanos 3:23 “Por cuanto todos pecaron, y están
destituidos de la gloria de Dios”.

El resultado de nuestros pecados es que morimos
físicamente y espiritualmente por que sin Jesús el
hombre va al infierno (un lugar de castigo que no
tendrá fin).

Romanos 6: 23 “Porque la paga del pecado es la
muerte, mas la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en
Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro”.

-Jesús murió en tu lugar.
Romanos 5:8-11 “Mas Dios muestra su amor para
con nosotros, en que siendo aún pecadores, Cristo
murió por nosotros. Pues mucho más, estado ya
justificados en su sangre, por Él seremos salvos de
la ira. Porque si siendo enemigos, fuimos
reconciliados con Dios por la muerte de su Hijo,
mucho más, estando reconciliados seremos salvos
por su vida. Y no sólo esto, sino que también nos
gloriamos en Dios por el Señor nuestro Jesucristo,
por quien hemos recibido ahora la reconciliación”.

Jesús volvió a la vida.
1 Corintios 15: 3-6 “...Cristo murió por nuestros
pecados, conforme a las Escrituras; y que fue
sepultado, y que resucitó al tercer día, conforme a
las Escrituras; y que apareció a Céfas,
y después a los doce. Después apareció a más de
quinientos hermanos a la vez, de los cuales muchos
viven aún, y otros duermen.”

Jesús es el UNICO camino a Dios. Esto significa
que Ud. tiene que seguir SOLAMENTE a Jesús.
Ud. no puede creer en ninguna otra religión al
mismo tiempo.
Juan 14:6, Jesús dijo: “Yo soy el camino, y la
verdad, y la vida,
nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí”.
Éxodo 20: 3-5 dice: “No tendrás dioses ajenos
delante de mí. No
te harás imagen, ni ninguna semejanza de lo que
esté arriba en el
cielo, ni abajo en la tierra, ni en las aguas debajo de
la tierra. No
te inclinarás a ellas, ni las honrarás; porque yo soy
Jehová tu
Dios, fuerte, celoso, que visito la maldad de los
padres sobre los
hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que
me
aborrecen”.
Usted no tiene que hacer obras buenas para ser
salvo. Solamente tiene que CREER (tener fe) que
Jesús ya pagó por sus pecados.

Efesios 2:8-9 también dice: “Porque por gracia sois
salvos por medio de la fe, y esto no de vosotros,
pues es don de Dios, no por obras, para que nadie
se gloríe”.
Juan 3:16 “Porque de tal manera amó Dios al
mundo, que ha dado a su Hijo unigénito, para que
todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga
vida eterna”.

-Usted solamente tiene que recibirle a él en su
corazón

. Juan 1:12 dice: “Mas a todos los que le
recibieron, a los que creen en su nombre, les dio
potestad de ser hechos hijos de Dios”.

Usted puede recibir a Jesús ahora mismo haciendo
una oración. La oración es hablar con Dios. Hay
unas cosas que Usted debe decir a Dios cuando
ore:
-Usted cree que él existe y es su creador.
-Usted sabe que desobedecido su leyes y que
merece morir y ser castigado en el infierno.
-Usted cree que Jesús, el Hijo de Dios, vino al
mundo, vivió una vida perfecta, y murió en la cruz
por sus pecados.
-Usted quiere que él le perdone sus pecados.
-Usted quiere que él venga a su vida y le controle.
-Usted quiere seguirle a él para siempre.

Aquí hay una oración como ejemplo:

“Señor Jesús, yo sé que Ud. es Dios. Le necesito.
Gracias por morir en la cruz por mis pecados. por
favor, perdóneme por todo lo malo que he sido y
por el tiempo que he pasado sin creer en Usted.
Yo abro la puerta de mi vida y le pido que me
limpie de mis pecados y que sea mi Dios y el Señor
de mi vida para siempre. Gracias por perdonarme y
darme el regalo de la vida eterna con Usted en el
cielo. Toma el control de mi vida
quiero seguirle en obediencia cueste lo que me
cueste. Cámbieme y hágame como usted quiera.

Sí esta oración expresa el deseo de su corazón.
Repítala ahora mismo y pídale a Dios que le salve.
Usted puede orar en su propio idioma si desea. Si
usted quiere orar esta oración pero tiene miedo que
su familia se enoje con usted, por favor vea la
sección con el título “Problema” al final de este
librito.

-Sí usted hizo la oración para recibir a Jesús, usted
es una persona nueva! Sus pecados han sido
perdonados! Usted es un hijo de Dios! Ahora
mismo en los cielos están celebrando porque
usted ha decidido seguir a Cristo. Lucas 15: 10
dice: “Así os digo que hay gozo delante los ángeles
de Dios por un pecador que se arrepiente”.

Usted tiene la vida eterna! “ Y este es el testimonio;
que Dios nos ha dado vida eterna; y esta vida está
en su Hijo. El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la vida; el que
no tiene al Hijo de Dios no tiene la vida. Estas
cosas os he escrito a vosotros que creéis en el
nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que
tenéis vida eterna.” 1 Juan 5:11-13.

“No te desamparé, ni te dejaré”. Hebreos 13:5.

Después de que usted ha aceptado a Cristo.

Jesucristo está en su vida(Apocalipsis 3:20 y
Colosenses 1:27.)
Sus pecados han sido perdonados (Colosenses 1:
14.)
Ahora usted es un hijo de Dios (Juan 1:12.)
Usted ha recibido la vida eterna (Juan 5:24.)
Usted ha empezado una gran aventura para lo cual
Dios lo creó (Juan 10:10,11;
II Corintios 5:17; I Tesalonicenses 5:18.)

Síga Creciendo!
Ahora que Ud. es un cristiano nuevo, debe
continuar conociendo a Dios más cada día,
creciendo en la fe y aprendiendo las normar
cristianas.

G-Ore a Dios cada día (Juan 15:7.)
R.-Lea la Biblia diariamente (Hechos 17:11.)
O-Obedezca a Dios cada minuto (Juan 14:21.)
W-Sea testigo de Cristo con su vida y palabras
(Mateo 4:19.)
T-Confíele a Dios todas sus necesidades (I Pedro 5:
7.)
H-Permítale al Espíritu Santo controlar su vida
diariamente.

Busque una iglesia donde se enseña la Palabra de
Dios. El consejo de Dios es, “no dejando de
congregarnos” (Hebreos 10:25.) Como cristiano,
usted es parte del “Cuerpo de Cristo.”
Tal como un cuerpo necesita todas sus partes, la
iglesia te necesita. Busque una iglesia donde se
glorifica a Cristo y se enseña la Biblia. Haga planes
de asistir regularmente.

Romanos 12:4-5 dice: “ Porque de la manera que
en un cuerpo tenemos muchos miembros, pero no
todos los miembros tienen la misma función, así
nosotros, siendo muchos, somos un cuerpo en
Cristo, y todos miembros los unos de los otros.

Problema de la Familia: Yo comprendo que
Jesús es el único camino a Dios y yo quiero
seguirle, pero amo a mi familia y no quiero que se
enojen conmigo si yo sigo la fe cristiana. ¿Qué
debo hacer?

Marcos 10:29-30 “Respondió Jesús y dijo: De
cierto os digo que no hay ninguno que haya dejado
casa o hermanos, o hermanas o padre o madre o
mujer, o hijos, o tierras, por causa de mí
y del evangelio, que no reciba cien veces más ahora
en este tiempo; casas, hermanos, hermanas,
madres, hijos, y tierras, con persecuciones; y en el
siglo venidero la vida eterna.”
Éxodo 20:12 “Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para
que tus días se alarguen en la tierra que
Jehová tu Dios te da.”
I Corintios 7:12,13,16 “ Y a los demás yo digo no
el Señor: Si algún hermano tiene mujer que no sea
creyente, y ella consiente en vivir con él, no la
abandone. Y si una mujer tiene marido que no sea
creyente, y él consiente en vivir con ella, no la
abandone....Porque ¿qué sabes tú,
oh mujer, si quizá harás salvo a tu marido? ¿O qué
sabes tú oh marido, si quizá harás salva a tu
mujer?”.

Para ser cristiano no tiene que dejar de amar a tu
familia. En realidad con la ayuda de Dios Ud. va a
amarles más y va a querer que ellos también crean
en Dios como Usted.”

Tomando la Decisión Correcta

Imagínese que está manejando un coche con toda
su familia, dormida en las sillas de atrás. Están de
viaje a la playa para las vacaciones con la familia.
De repente, mira un
letrero que dice: “Peligro Minas Adelante!” “Alto”
“Doble a otra Calle!” ¿Qué haría Ud.?
Si sigue en esa calle, eventualmente usted y su
familia van a morir. Pero si obedece las
indicaciones salvaría su vida y la de su familia. Es
probable que su familia se sentiría muy triste por no
poder disfrutar de sus vacaciones en la playa, pero
si usted ama a su familia sería mejor que estén
tristes a que mueran por querer disfrutar de
felicidad un momento. De la misma manera, si usted
cambia de religión para ser un cristiano, está
cambiando del camino que le lleva a la muerte y al
infierno, al camino que le lleva al cielo y a la vida
eterna. Su familia pueda ser que va estar enojada
por un tiempo, pero después aceptaran tu decisión.
Además tendrá la oportunidad de hablarles del
peligro de no seguir a Jesús. Es probable que ellos
decidan ser cristianos como usted y estarán felices
hoy y siempre. Esto será mejor que no seguir las
indicaciones que los rótulos en el camino de la vida
le dan.

La decisión es suya, mi oración a Dios es que
tengas la sabiduría para escoger el camino de la
vida eterna, para usted mismo ahora, y para su
familia después.
