What you believe about the existence of God is very important. If there is a God, we are required to obey his commandments. If there is no God, we are free to do whatever we want. However, if there is no God, there is also no one to protect us from others who would want to hurt us. There is no hope for ultimate justice for all the bad things that happen in life. Ultimately, life is without meaning because we are no different than animals, we are born, eat, reproduce, and die.
If there is a God, especially if the God of the Bible is the true God, there is hope for justice. We have someone to protect us. Our lives will never end. Our lives have true meaning. Compare the two belief systems below. You will see that a belief in God leads to life and hope, while atheism leads to death and despair.
Pol Pot Proof that Education is Not Enough
Pol Pot grew up in Cambodia and became a university student. In the 1960's he went to France. There, his professors taught him that there was no God, that the universe happened by chance, and that people were the same as animals. When Pol Pot returned to Cambodia, he became the leader of a revolution. When he took over the country in 1975, he exterminated millions of people because they were educated. Pol Pot was not afraid that God would punish him for killing innocent women and children because he didn't believe that there was a God. He didn't value human life because to him killing a child was the same as killing a dog. Fortunately, four years later, Cambodia was invaded by Vietnam and the Khmer Rouge reign of terror came to an end. Twenty years later, the nation of Cambodia is still trying to recover from the loss of three million of their educated people.
Christians Khmer Rouge God-Will judge government and people No God
The government is afraid to hurt the people Pol Pot=Government=God because God will judge the leaders.
People have rights and freedom. People have no rights and They should obey government and God no freedom.
